Ninth Grade Humanities Learning Community

Last updated September 26, 2022

Our ninth grade humanities learning community is the first of its kind and is designed to create a sense of community, increase access to various types of learning spaces, promote student agency, and provide opportunities for flexible grouping within our high school block schedule. Our current humanities learning community is home to our new ninth grade Humanities program, which is composed of two sections of students who simultaneously engage with two teachers, one Social Studies and one English, in an interdisciplinary double block model that highlights connections between curriculums and our SAS learning aspirations.

Our first learning community in high school is an incremental step toward our future interdisciplinary learning community, which will also include other disciplines such as science. The structure and design of the community remove time and space as barriers and allows flexibility to dive into topics while forming a strong sense of community and collaboration amongst all of our ninth grade students. The community concept reflects our high design principles that serve as the foundation of our multi-year high school renovation plans.
