We're so excited to share that our APEx Fitness and Wellness Center is now open!
Since 2012, the initial APEx committee led by Mr. Chuck Shriner, who was an SAS educator for more than 30 years, worked tirelessly to develop a health and wellness center with outstanding facilities. As part of the committee, over 50 high school students and educators had a vision that extended far beyond mere physical fitness. Today, the APEx has undergone a transformative remodel to become the APEx Fitness and Wellness Center, taking into consideration various aspects of wellness.
A student-run APEx board shared their vision to promote physical fitness, nutrition, and mental health. They - and we - believe that positive health and wellness outcomes should be accessible to all community members, and this inclusivity forms the basis of what you see today. The board continues to work on promoting this as an inclusive space for health and wellness at SAS.
The new APEx Fitness and Wellness Center is a three-level facility, offering amenities and programs that cater to diverse interests and needs. As you may have seen, or you can drop by later, the first floor features free weights, isolation machines, and a spacious area for various activities for strength and conditioning. The second floor focuses on cardio, plyometric, and functional fitness. And finally, this space serves as a theoretical learning space, providing opportunities for our students and educators to discuss nutrition, exercise theory, and more.
The APEx board's dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment is truly commendable. Whether you are a seasoned gym enthusiast or a novice, the new APEx Fitness and Wellness Center welcomes you with open arms.
