The Middle School Caring for Cambodia Club recently embarked on a meaningful service-learning trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, from February 20 to 23, 2025.

Singapore American School’s student-led conference is a great opportunity to celebrate your child's learning journey. In 2022, inspired by an Indigenous Australian art exhibition, ninth grade student Maia embarked on a National History Day journey exploring the Papunya Tula Art Movement. With support from experts, Maia unveiled a rich narrative, earning third prize at the National History Day Competition. Chinese Performing Arts, a recent addition to our middle school's elective offerings in 2023-24, has been intentionally designed to meet the unique needs of students who completed fifth grade Chinese Immersion and those who entered middle school with a high level of proficiency in Chinese. Grade 8 drama students began the semester exploring trust and physical theater. Each pair selected balance poses and received an assigned emotion from their peers. They crafted a unique performance with music and costumes, narrating a story through physical movement. We hope you enjoy the final result!

From providing opportunities for leadership development through peer council to fostering a sense of ownership and empowerment through our interdisciplinary unit on power and advocacy, opportunities for our students to share their voice are an integral part of our program in the middle school at SAS.

Last month, our seventh grade students embarked on an interdisciplinary journey focusing on equity and interdependence. Here's a glimpse of the various topics our students explored.

Dive into the world of Tri Time projects with middle school student ambassadors Jack D. and Quentin Z. From March 13 to April 5, students passionately explored their interests, sharing impressive projects like building a cat house for campus felines and crafting a model airplane. Discover their challenges, inspirations, and triumphant outcomes that showcase the spirit of innovation and learning.

As we come to the end of the school year, many of us are thinking ahead to summer. For some, the end of school will also involve a move to a new country. For those of us who stay, this involves saying goodbye to people who have shared a significant part of our life. Learn about how the RAFT transition model can help us transition well.

Sacrifice for Freedom®: World War II in the Pacific Student and Teacher Institute is a program hosted by the National History Day organization and sponsored by the Pearl Harbor Historic Site partners. Last summer, middle school social studies teacher Matthew Elms and high school student Anna T. were selected to participate in this special program and spent a week in Hawaii learning about WWII!

Congratulations to the 18 middle school students who have qualified to compete at the National History Day finals to be held at the University of Maryland from June 11 to 15, 2023. We were thrilled to celebrate our students' achievements at the recent NHD International Awards Ceremony!
