Each day students will spend time in their divisional classrooms getting to know each other, learning about the many SAS play spaces and learning spaces, diving into art or music, attending a wellness class, learning about technology that is typically used in their grade level and exploring the campus. Typically, there are two learning blocks in the morning, lunch and then two more blocks in the afternoon, with additional breaks and recess mixed in. Not necessarily. We are not made aware of who your child’s classroom teacher will be, but they will get to know many teachers at Jumpstart that they will see on campus during the year and they may very well be in that teacher’s class.

Parents are not allowed to accompany students on the buses at any time. There is a bus monitor on the buses to assist the children when they are riding the buses. If you would like, you can drive, metro or taxi your child onto campus on Monday, but you must let Yeap Transport know so they do not pick up your child on that day.

It completely depends on your child. If you feel that will help, you are certainly welcome to accompany them on the first day, but you cannot remain on campus. Rest assured that our teachers, particularly those of younger learners, are adept at helping children start their day positively. They are very experienced with their age group and know there may be tears, but they will pass once the day gets going. Please listen to the advice of the teacher working with your child.

Arrival and pick-up will be as follows:

• Early learning center in front of the early learning center lobby
• Kindergarten and first grade in lobby A of the elementary school
• Second to fifth grade at lobby B of elementary school
• Middle and high school will be dropped off and picked up at the middle school lobby.

All of the spaces are clearly marked and security will be out and directing you. If you are driving in, please follow the security’s directions for where to park. As you arrive by foot or car, you can let the security team know what grade your child is in and they will direct you accordingly.

Your teachers will do their best to send a communication on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We will also have the Communications staff at SAS take photos during the week, and we will make these available to you at the end of the week. Assume that ‘no news is good news’ and your children are off having a wonderful time.

Absolutely and your child will be encouraged to drink plenty of water and to refill it throughout the day. Students will be shown where the closest bathrooms are to their classrooms, and there will be breaks throughout the day. For the younger children, they will be reminded or asked to visit the restroom frequently. All students participating in Jumpstart are expected to be fully potty-trained, as is the rule for regular school.

Lunch is included as a part of Jumpstart though you will need to place an online order for each child. Lunch pre-order forms will be shared after the completion of registration. Students may bring their own food; however, no refrigeration or microwave is available. A morning snack will be provided each day-students are welcome to bring extra snacks. There is no access to the cafeteria for general purchases.

If your child visits the nurse, you will receive a message either from the nurse or their classroom teacher. If there are more minor concerns or behavioral issues, the classroom teacher will communicate details directly with the parents.

Jumpstart teachers, instructional assistants and directors will meet the buses, walkers and car arrivals each morning. Your child will be escorted to their classroom, and you can come too if you are on campus. In the afternoon, all students will be helped on to the appropriate bus or dismissed if they are walking home. If you are picking up your child, you will see the Jumpstart staff outside with the kids at dismissal time.
