Who is Eligible for Support Services?
At Singapore American School (SAS), our aim is to assist students encountering learning challenges, irrespective of whether they have a diagnosed disability. If a student demonstrates a significant need for additional support beyond classroom-based strategies, they may access our Support Services. Eligibility is determined through a comprehensive Student Support Meeting (SSM), considering the student's educational requirements, past interventions, and other relevant information.
Services Offered
We provide a range of specialized support services designed to aid students with learning and language difficulties. Parents, students, educators, counselors, psychologists, or administrators can request these services.
Classroom Assistance
Teachers collaborate with our school psychologist and learning support teacher to address difficulties faced by students within the classroom setting.
Co-Teaching
Some classes are taught by two teachers—a subject expert and a learning support teacher—providing additional assistance to students requiring more support.
Learning Support Elective Class
Tailored classes focus on enhancing specific skills required for regular classes, catering to students needing extra support. This can be daily across multiple subjects or for a specific challenging subject.
Testing and Academic Accommodations
Students with diagnosed learning disabilities or academic struggles receive personalized assistance and accommodations for tests and classwork. These are outlined in an individualized plan, reviewed annually and adjusted as necessary.
Speech and Language Services
Speech and language intervention aims to assist students facing communication delays, disorders, or social communication challenges impacting their classroom communication. The speech-language specialist evaluates various facets of a child's communication abilities (articulation, receptive and expressive language, voice, and fluency) to determine the necessity for services.
