Dear Parents,
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health announced a change in their mask-wearing policy for indoor spaces. Beginning on Monday, August 29, mask-wearing will be optional in both indoor and outdoor settings at school. Although Singapore’s new regulations no longer require masks on school buses, we do encourage bus riders to continue wearing their masks.
We are excited about what this means for our students and educators. The ability to openly express and observe emotion is a significant aspect of building and strengthening relationships. It will help our students in their learning, especially in the development of language. I am looking forward to seeing our students being able to express themselves more fully in classrooms, better understand others, and deepen friendships and connections with each other.
We are also mindful of the fact that Covid-19 remains part of our daily lives. We will respect and support the decision of any student, educator, or parent who chooses to wear a mask. That will be the choice of each family.
With the lifting of the mask restrictions, we would like to re-emphasize the importance of everyone being mindful of your health and the health of your child. If your child is sick (whether they have Covid-19 or not), we ask that you keep them home until they have recovered. Doing this helps us limit the amount of sickness spread throughout our community.
We will continue to update you if we receive additional information or if the government adjusts any further safe management measures.
At this milestone step, I would like to take a moment to deeply thank everyone in our community who has helped us navigate Covid-19 over the last several years. We are grateful for all the extra efforts of our educators, students, and parents that have allowed us to keep school open, maintain our community’s health, and adjust to rapidly shifting requirements. Thank you! We are also grateful that the country has seen a steady decline in cases recently and we are hopeful about our trajectory for the future.
Best,
Tom Boasberg
