High School Laptop Program

Empowering students with tools for success in a digital world.

Singapore American School believes technology plays a vital and increasing role in learning. Our approach focuses on providing students with access to the tools and resources they need to succeed.

All students in grades 9-12 are required to bring a laptop that meets the minimum specifications listed below. The school does not provide laptops for high school students.

  • RAM: 4GB minimum (Recommended: 8GB)
  • Storage: 256GB Hard Drive
  • Wireless: 802.11 N network card
  • Operating System: macOS Ventura 13+ or Windows 11 (English OS)
  • Accessories: Built-in webcam, earbuds/headset with microphone

Most tablets do not meet these specifications and are only recommended as supplemental devices.

Laptops can be purchased from technology retailers in Singapore, such as Harvey Norman, Courts, Challenger, Sim Lim Plaza, and Funan Digital Life Mall.

Internet access is filtered for educational purposes. SAS monitors network activity and strictly prohibits software or tools that bypass filters, such as BitTorrent. Violations of these rules will result in network access suspension.

  • Laptops must be fully charged before school each day.
  • Store laptops in a protective case and carry them securely in a closed backpack.
  • Backup all files regularly using external drives or cloud storage.

Short-term Chromebook loans are available if a student’s laptop is under repair. SAS does not provide loaner laptops for forgotten devices or insufficient battery.

To request a loaner, visit the High School Tech Help Center (H308).

Sound: Audio must be muted unless the teacher grants permission. Headphones/earbuds are required.

Printing: Students can print to shared printers in the HS Library or Tech Help Center (H308).

Laptop Dress Code: Inappropriate media, including references to weapons, drugs, hate symbols, or offensive language, is not allowed.

Students needing support can visit the High School Tech Help Center (H308) during school hours. A technician is available for troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

Violations of the Digital Citizenship Agreement (DCA) may result in:

  • Network access suspension
  • Disciplinary action
  • Possible expulsion or legal consequences
