Dear Parents,

I hope you had an enjoyable Chinese New Year holiday and were able to spend time with friends, family, and loved ones.

As we look forward to the remainder of this semester, we have a number of exciting events and announcements planned. Our PTA is hosting a virtual International Fair, we are making good progress on our campus upgrade project, and a committee of board members, students, parents, and faculty are working on a schoolwide DEI statement.

We are also working closely with the SAS Board of Directors, who serve vital roles as stewards of the school’s long-term future, to update our strategic plan this spring. This plan will be our guide in the years to come.

We adopted our most recent six-year strategic plan in 2014.  As we have discussed at many parent forums, our goal is to carefully review and revise that strategic plan based on what we have learned and our shared goal of preparing our students for the future. This revised strategic plan is the culmination of many hundreds of student, parent, faculty, and alumni voices over the last 18 months, classroom visits, community forums, and our WASC accreditation process that included every teacher.

We have greatly appreciated hearing your ideas and suggestions and your feedback on the strategic framework below we introduced a year ago for community discussion. A key part of the strategic planning process is outlining the key action items we want to take in the coming years regarding our three focus areas of extraordinary care, excellence, and possibilities.

The Board is leading the strategic plan process, and we are working closely with the Board via a committee of school leaders and school board members, who have taken all of the data and ideas collected. They are in the final stage of reviewing and revising the final plan, and the Board will be meeting twice in March to discuss it. The goal is to publish the final version of the plan later next month.

After sharing the plan we intend to hold a series of community sessions where we will spend time discussing the individual pieces of the plan and what it means for the student experience. Keep an eye on eNews for additional information in mid-March.
