Our music program in middle school and high school is primarily focused on the performance of pieces composed by others, whereas the standards we are adapting focus on a more balanced approach to music literacy including students creating their music. As part of the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) work that we are adapting, middle school choir students worked alongside their choir teacher Kristin Symes all semester to create and compose their own music.
