In a country where space is a commodity, SAS offers students room to explore, enjoy, and be inspired. Boasting 36-acres of open pathways, a natural rainforest, and beautiful greenery it’s easy to see why students and parents become captivated with Singapore American School’s Woodlands campus.
Located in the North Region of Singapore, the town of Woodlands is connected to Malaysia's city of Johor Bahru, via the Johor-Singapore Causeway. Consequently, there’s no denying that Woodlands can be dismissed as being a little too far from Singapore’s CBD.
While 15 percent of SAS families live in the Woodlands region, most of our community live in closer proximity to the CBD. We asked some SAS parents their thoughts about our school location.
"We moved to SAS three years ago. At the time, we thought the location of the school was a negative but the benefits such as strong teacher retention, counselors at every grade level, and strong academic support outweighed the journey. However, now that we are fully immersed in the SAS community I understand that the school’s location is part of its identity. If it were squeezed onto a campus downtown, it would be restricted in what it can offer students, staff, and parents.
Unlike schools that are located closer to the central area, SAS really is a little village with a rainforest, numerous food options, a caterer, and so forth! These days it saddens me to hear "SAS is a good school, but it’s so far away…" as I have come to learn the real value in our campus."

"When choosing a school, the main factors for our family were quality of teachers, curriculum, and community.
Initially, we were worried about putting our three-year-old on a long bus journey from the East Coast to Woodlands. But the staff took such great care of him! Not long after joining SAS, we moved into a large condo with lots of SAS students. Waiting for the school bus became a great way for parents and students to get to know each other!
We now live close to the Botanic Garden and have a car so we can zip up to SAS in 15 minutes. We are at the school several times a week to volunteer, use the library, and pick up our children from activities. The Woodlands location works for us!"

“We chose Woodlands as the perfect spot to settle down as you can get anywhere in Singapore easily (and in great time). We love the peace, space, and community feel of our Woodlands neighborhood — and with easy access to the various expressways if we ever feel the need to head into the city we can make it downtown in 20 minutes.”
