WHAT ARE OUR LEARNING ASPIRATIONS?
Our learning aspirations, also known as our desired student learning outcomes (DSLOs), set out the key learning attributes we wish all our students to develop. These are the skills that we believe every SAS student should acquire in order to be successful in the future, and they are at the heart of our academic mission.
CHARACTER: Engaging both the heart and mind to help us experience and express ourselves in relation to others, ultimately helping us to improve the world around us. Character at SAS is demonstrated through Core Values , also known as the Eagle Way: compassion, honesty, fairness, respect, and responsibility.
COLLABORATION: Working effectively towards a common goal in the process of shared creation while optimizing group and individual contributions within diverse teams. Specific competencies developed at SAS include engaging in teamwork and navigating conflict.
COMMUNICATION: Effectively exchanging ideas and information through oral, written, digital, and creative expression on an interpersonal and global level. Specific competencies developed at SAS include engaging in discussions and delivering presentations.
CONTENT KNOWLEDGE: Acquiring the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to success in college, career, and life. Content knowledge at SAS is addressed through the power standards identified by each discipline area.
CREATIVITY: Integrating and combining ideas while following a passion or curiosity to develop a useful and novel idea, process, or product. Specific competencies developed at SAS include designing solutions and producing creatively.
CRITICAL THINKING: Accessing and analyzing key information to develop responses to complex problems and questions that may have no clear answer. Specific competencies developed at SAS include engaging in inquiry and consuming critically.
CULTURAL COMPETENCE: Functioning effectively with people of different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds by building awareness of one’s own cultural worldview, and developing cross-cultural skills and a positive attitude towards cultural differences.
