What We Do

Supporting the Arts Curriculum

This is done in several ways. When teachers ask us for help - finding volunteers, sourcing costumes, doing research - we get it done. We support student performances in many ways - volunteer help at rehearsals, invitations and advertisement of performances, after-performance receptions and recognitions among other things. The Arts Council generates ideas and provides logistical support for arts-related field trips.

After-School Arts

The Arts Council initiated the Primary and Intermediate Schools' after-school arts workshops. Now the program is administered by school professionals, but the Arts Council still works closely with the EASA coordinator, Vicki Crocker, to develop new courses. The Arts Council also sponsors Irish Dance classes with Lynette Rock and hopes to offer other dance classes for younger students this year.

Visiting Artists

Each year the Arts Council endeavors to bring professional performers to the school to perform for the students and offer workshops. In the past we have sponsored actors Susannah York and Roger Llewellyn as well as professional productions of A Christmas Carol.

Symphony Bus

The Arts Council undertakes many activities off campus as well. At all grade levels the Arts Council organizes trips to professional theater, music and visual arts events. At the Primary level most events are for the entire family. At the Middle School, "The Symphony Bus" links theater/symphony events with a meal, a brief talk and a bit of etiquette instruction. A more age appropriate program has been introduced specifically to 4th and 5th graders, "That Dance Thing" is a social dance instruction program for Middle School students. For High School students we provide discounted tickets to high-caliber professional productions.

Because of our extensive involvement, the Arts Council is the largest purchaser of theater tickets in Singapore, which allows us to secure good seats at discounted prices.

Your help is urgently needed to reinstate the Symphony Bus program.  If you value exposure to the arts and cultural events for our students, please contact us.

Aesthetic Improvements

Arts Council volunteers work with school staff to create brighter, warmer, more welcoming spaces in the school. Contributions have included such diverse projects as decorating the Primary/Intermediate/Middle School cafeterias, creating seating areas at the Middle and High Schools, making game tables for the Middle and Intermediate Schools, and purchasing art for display throughout the campus.
