Superintendent's Message

Dr. Brent Mutsch

Welcome from the Superintendent of Schools:

Several years ago, in preparation for the mid-cycle accreditation review by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools, SAS reflected upon its mission and values and articulated what became known as the “Vital Few.” Today, these three statements serve to represent the essential elements of the Singapore American School. The “Vital Few” are;

  • Academic Rigor
  • Extraordinary Care for the Welfare of Each Child
  • Professional Excellence

When taken in combination, the “Vital Few” create a wonderful learning community for SAS students, parents and employees, while also promoting the partnership between home and school that is so critical to achieve educational excellence.

Whether you are a family seeking to make a decision about the appropriate school placement for your child, a student, parent, employee or community member already actively engaged in the life of SAS seeking further information, or someone seeking to better understand what makes SAS such a special learning community, you are invited to review the pages of the SAS website.  We anticipate that the available information will meet your specific needs, but if not, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

A review of the website will enable you to quickly observe the vitality and love for learning that permeates SAS. One can’t help but observe that this is a school dedicated to; appropriately challenging each student to meet their full potential (academic rigor), supporting each student in their academic, emotional, physical and social development (extraordinary care for the welfare of each child) and promoting lifelong learning and application of “best practices” in facilitating the growth and development of students and colleagues (professional excellence).

SAS is indeed a special place and we invite you to take advantage of the varied opportunities to become engaged in the life of the school and to celebrate the wonderful things that occur in the lives of SAS students each and every day.

Respectfully,

Brent Mutsch, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
