Facilities
In August of 1996, the Singapore American School moved into a new campus located on thirty-seven acres in the Woodlands area of Singapore. In 2005, a three year expansion and renovation project was completed. Including a new state-of -the-art High School and Early Childhood Center (opened in 2004) the newly renovated and expanded campus includes additional classrooms and facilities to support an enrollment of up to 3800 students.
With its open airy walkways, flowing fountains, and tropical courtyards located throughout the campus, SAS provides a safe and pleasant learning environment in one of the finest international school facilities in the world.
PRIMARY SCHOOL

The primary school (kindergarten to grade two), with its purpose built early childhood classrooms provides a safe and exciting educational beginning for our younger students. The fully air conditioned classrooms are complemented by an extensive library/media center, computer labs, perceptual motor room, specially designed and fitted music art and Mandarin classrooms, rooms for large group activities, a cafeteria and outdoor covered playgrounds. A climbing wall, two swimming pools and two gymnasiums are shared with the intermediate school.

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

The intermediate school (grades three through five) is located adjacent to the primary school on the campus. Like the primary school, its fully air-conditioned classrooms are complemented by an extensive library/media center, computer labs, music classrooms for band, choir and general music instruction, art rooms, Mandarin classrooms, science labs, rooms for large group activities, and outdoor play areas. Two gymnasiums, a climbing wall and two swimming pools are shared with the primary school. Cafeteria space is shared with the middle school.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

The air conditioned middle school classrooms are clustered in groups with direct access to group rooms to facilitate large group activities. To complement the wide range of electives offered at the middle school, special instruction rooms for technology, art, choir, band, home-living, dance, and computer instruction are provided. Six science labs complete the middle school classroom arrangement.
The middle school facilities also include a gymnasium and extensive library/media center. A 25-meter swimming pool is shared with the high school for swimming instruction. Middle school students share cafeteria space with the intermediate school.
HIGH SCHOOL

At the newly built High School students enjoy facilities with fully air conditioned classrooms, modern science labs, a dance studio, a language lab, computer and technology labs, vocal and instrumental classrooms with small group practice rooms as well as specialized art, home-living, graphic arts, photography and weight training rooms. As in the other divisions, the high school provides a large, modern library/media center and gymnasiums. The 25-meter pool, climbing wall, playing fields and high-ropes course, and theaters are shared with the middle school. The high school cafeteria offers a selection of local and western cuisine which is provided by the school's local caterer as well as Juice Zone and Subway.

PERFORMING ARTS FACILITIES
The performing arts facilities at the Singapore American School have been designed to provide professional quality performing venues for showcasing student talent. These facilities include an 800-seat auditorium designed primarily as a musical theater with computerized lighting and surround sound, a 300-seat drama theater with sloped Shakespearean style seating and a thrust stage, a 150-seat theater/studio and a 350-seat multi purpose theater expandable to 700 seats. All of these performance venues were designed to the specifications of theater and acoustic consultants and have access to video projection and television camera systems.

ATHLETIC COMPLEX
An all weather track and field with a covered stadium which seats 1000 forms the focal point of the SAS outdoor athletic complex. Five lighted tennis courts, two additional soccer/football fields, a baseball field, two softball fields, one 20-meter and two 25-meter swimming pools and a high-ropes course complete the outdoor facilities. Four large, air conditioned gymnasiums provide space for physical education classes and sporting events. Two, smaller auxiliary gyms provide additional gymnasium space when needed. Students may also take advantage of the fully equipped weight training facilities. Athletic facilities are used for physical education, varsity and intramural sports, as well as community-sponsored athletics. |
